The Great Eastern Home: Chinoiserie Cabinet

Well known for introducing exclusive traditional pieces of furniture, The Great Eastern Home recently unveiled an exotic Chinoiserie cabinet. This cabinet is an original antique, boasting a painted Chinese landscape across both doors and the drawer. Hand-painted and hand-crafted by a family-owned artisans’ collective, the wooden cabinet marries sophistication of style to practical storage space and is finished with fine, rich lacquer in the traditional reddish-brown hues.

For the uninitiated, Chinoiserie is the European interpretation and imitation of Chinese and East Asian artistic traditions, especially in the decorative arts, garden design, architecture, literature, theatre, and music. As a style Chinoiserie is related to the Rococo style. From colourful foo dogs to glossy lacquered furnishings, Chinoiserie encompasses far more than the blue-and-white porcelain.
