Young at Art

Minal Singhal creates a delectable range of easy-to-maintain kiddie art under her venture Mima Art.

When you come from a family of artists, as Minal Singhal does, home is, literally, where the art is. In February 2011, Minal found herself dealing with the daunting task of finding the perfect return gift for a nephew. Disappointed by run-of-the-mill and expensive choices, Minal, who has a background in designing and canvas printing, set about creating personalized wall hangings as give-aways. “Within six months, we had catered to five birthday parties with over 50 kids each!” she states. At Mima Art, Minal and her team create handmade as well as computer-generated designs, which are then turned into either customized or generic products. For purposes of quality, the artisans utilize the giclée printing technique which is used on 100 per cent cotton canvas, and archival quality ink. The products are then hand-stretched for a finish, just as they would be in an art gallery. The paper offering, which ranges from wall clocks and hangings, to height charts, collages, photo-books, tablemats, nameplates, year planners, gift tags and bags, and filing folders, are all handmade in-house. With Mima Art, Minal makes sure that there is no category of products that a child could want for. Easy to maintain, the canvas line-up can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth, except for the laminated tablemats, which can
be wet-wiped.

Mima Art is a spin-off from the Pune-based gallery Art for All, which operates on the premise of making art available to everyone. Minal Singhal takes care of the brand from designing to production.
