What wouldn’t we have to open a giant cabinet like we would an old-fashioned sewing box? Designer Kiki van Ejik designed this magnificent cabinet and presented it as part of the Dutch Design Week. What’s great about this cabinet is that design wise, it’s a lot more than meets the eye. The piece, which is made of elm and solid brass knobs, uses absolutely no motor or electronic components. It is supported by springs and you have to pull it from one side to open up the whole structure. It’s a one-person job, despite its weight and bulk. According to the designer, the entire project took four whole years to reach completion.
