Ikea unites with social enterprises for Hantverk range

Ikea recently introduced a limited edition collection of cushion covers, throws, baskets, bowls, vases and more through Hantverk. Meaning handicraft in Swedish, Hantverk features handcrafted products from natural sustainable materials such as banana fibre, handmade paper, ceramic and cotton.

Ikea has collaborated with various social enterprises based in India, Thailand and Jordan, for this collection, to add their unique touch to the products. Besides, the collection has enabled handloom weavers and women artisans to get the much-needed work in their own villages. In India, Ikea has collaborated with Industree Foundation and Rangsutra, where the former has worked on handwoven baskets made of sustainable banana fibres ranging from Rs 399 to Rs 599. The Indian range inspired by traditional Scandinavian birch bark baskets are handmade by Kavitha Nagaraj, a basket weaving artisan working for Industree. Whereas, Rangsutra has worked on handmade cushion covers with an interplay of warm earthy shades of red, blue and white ranging from Rs 799 to Rs 899. Besides, Hantverk also features products created by Doi Tung DP from Thailand and the Jordan River Foundation from Jordan.
