Facebook has moved into its new Menlo Park headquarters in Silicon Valley (California), known as MPK20 which has the largest open floor plan in the world. Designed by the far-famed architect Frank O Gehry, the 4,30,000-square-foot space, spread over 22 acres, is LEED-certified and boasts a nine-acre green roof (complete with work cabanas) and a underground parking lot. The roof — the park on it creates a half-mile loop and was inspired by the Highline in New York City — will also be home to cafes and full-sized trees. The staff of over 2,800 employees will work in one enormous room, keeping Facebook’s open work environment policy which fosters a community feeling and helps employees to work better in a group. The building also boasts of 15 custom, colourful art installations from local artists as part of the Facebook Artist in Residence programme.
