Crystal Ball

The Chinese real estate giant, ZhongRong Group, announced an investment of $ 500 million in order to rebuild the Victorian Crystal Palace. Originally built in 1851, the grand structure was created for the Great Exhibition in London. Designed by Joseph Paxton, it was open for public use for several years before a fire burnt it down in 1936. Made using the cast-plate glass method, this fantastic structure had ample sunlight filtering in, making its interiors look fairytale-like. Today, London-based Arup will reconstruct it to revive the glorious architecture of the past, albeit, with modern safety and sustainability standards. The Crystal Park will include a central tree-lined boulevard, a cafe and visitor centre, and a restored concert bowl.
